Friday the 13th facts

13

Let’s face it: even if you aren’t superstitious, there’s still something creepy about Friday the 13th. And today’s just the start of it…there are two more this year.

Want some fun facts to help take the edge off? Peep our list of spine-tingling trivia inspired by the day!

1. Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13. Friggaphobia is the fear of Fridays. Friggin’ weird.

2. The number 13 may be considered “unlucky” because it’s right after 12. Confused? Well, numerologists say that 12 is a symbol of completion – 12 months in a year, 12 zodia signs, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 days of Christmas…you get the idea. One past the magic number and you’re S.O.L. on completeness, the 13th useless wheel, i.e. doomed.

3. 13 is the number who attended The Last Supper. Maybe Jesus’ story spooked FDR, who would never host 13 guests for a meal.

4. Apollo 13 took off at 13:13 CST on April 11, 1970. The digits of the date (4-11-70) add up to 13.

5. Scariest? The U.S. loses $800 to $900 million in business on Friday the 13 as a result of people not going about their daily activities.
