Breakin’: Kennedy Collapses, Byrd freaks.

Ted KennedySen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts collapsed at a celebratory, post-inauguration luncheon held at the Capitol today. He suffered a seizure lasting several minutes and was taken from the building on a stretcher by paramedics.

Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last year after experiencing a similar seizure at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport. He underwent brain surgery last June and returned to the Senate in November. That’s dedication.

President Obama expressed concern for Kennedy:

“I would be lying to you if I did not say that right now a part of me is with him. And I think that’s true for all of us. This is a joyous time, but it’s also a sobering time. And my prayers are with him and his family and [his wife] Vicki.”

West Viginia’a Sen. Robert Byrd was rumored to have left the awesome-menued luncheon after experiencing eating difficulties, but the early exit was actually due to Byrd’s distress at Ted’s condition. Byrd and Kennedy are the most senior members of the senate, having 95 years of experience between them. I have never held a job for more than two years, is that an issue?

But seriously, we love you, Teddy, so get better! And, we kinda like you Robert Byrd, even if you were in the Klan.

By The Numbers: 95, number of years Kennedy and Byrd have spent in the Senate combined
