Trendsday: Nazism Schmatzism

by

It seems that Nazi Germany comparisons have come up a lot lately…in politics, in film, even in our hometowns. It’s appropriate that Germans created the word zeitgeist cause apparently Nazis are the new black!

  • Un Jew Brew: German coffee shop chain Tchibo stopped an ad campaign that featured an ancient Greek slogan co-opted by the Nazis: “To Each His Own.” The Jewish community protested because the slogan was slapped on the gate to the Buchenwald concentration camp. These jerks need a new marketing director – think of all that lost coffee talk!
  • Nazi Youth: The Division of Youth and Family Services removed 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his younger sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, from their racist-ass New Jersey parents. Attention was brought to the family when ShopRite refused to write “Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler” on the child’s birthday cake last month. Poor Adolf, on so many levels…first the racist parents and now he’s in the custody of (gasp) New Jersey? That kid is doomed!
  • Der Film: You might have noticed the recent onslaught of Nazi movies, Valkyrie, The Reader, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas? The newest Holocaust movie, Defiance received its first bad review from the AP:  “Defiance an unremarkable telling of a remarkable story.” Meanwhile, The Reader killed at the Golden Globes and sent Kate Winslet home with a win. It just goes to show that people would rather see Winslet naked than Daniel Craig. Duh.
  • Camping Out: Israel is pissed at Vatican Cardinal Renato Martino, for comparing Gaza under Israel’s military offensive to a “big concentration camp.” The Cardinal didn’t back down when Israeli spokesman Yigal Palmor said, “Using this excessive language is not doing justice…and he should know better.” Wah, the Vatican hates you, join the rest of the world!
  • A Harry Situation: Harry has made a name for himself offending well, everyone, ever since his stunt in January 2005 when he came to a costume party dressed as a Nazi. Lawmakers, Muslim groups, and the Pakistani public are mad at the bad boy Royal because he called his army colleague “our little paki friend” and then called a headscarf-wearing cadet a “raghead.” ? Peep this video published by a British newspaper. It’s apparent that Harry has no intentions to stop being funny racist.
